An Electrotechnology Pre-apprenticeship gives you a head start in the electrical field. What is a Pre-Apprenticeship?

An Electrotechnology Pre-apprenticeship provides nationally recognised training combined with on-the-job workplace experience. Throughout the course, you’ll learn the foundation skills and knowledge for your field, coupled with real-world industry expertise that will help you fast-track your career. This means that you’re not starting from scratch: you can apply for an apprenticeship or trainee position with confidence, knowing you’ve got the skills and capabilities that makes you a valuable part of your new team.

Why complete a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start)?

With an Electrotechnology Pre-apprenticeship you’ll learn how to identify electrical components and materials, undertake diagnostic tests, and solve electrical problems using routine equipment. Course Info

Beneficial Skills & Attributes

You will need:

  • An eye for detail to interpret drawing, design specifications, and instructions.
  • Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
  • To be technically-minded, precise, and enjoy practical, hands-on work.
  • Good stamina – you’ll be on your feet a lot.

Key Job Expertise

You will learn how to:

  • Undertake a range of activities in an electrical environment.
  • Identify and select components, accessories and materials for routine electrical work.
  • Test and troubleshoot circuits.
  • Diagnose electrical problems and identify how to fix them.
  • Operate hand and power tools.

Education & Training Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Completed year 11 +.
  • Willing to undertake an aptitude test.
  • Successful Completion of NAPLAN or OLNA.
  • AQF Certificate I or Certificate II.

Study Requirements
This course requires three days attendance per week for 20 weeks until completion.

Work Placement
There is a requirement of 150 hours of work placement for completion of this course.

As an apprentice, you will also do training off-site at our Skills Centre.

Fees & Charges

This program is funded by the Department of Training and Workforce Development through ‘Jobs and Skills WA’.

The student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as Student Service and Resource fees.

Until 31 December 2025 this course comes under the Lower Fees, Local Skills Initiative.

This means the course tuition fees have been cut in half!

Units of Competency

The Units of Competency we offer are:

  • CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • UEECD0007 – Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • UEECD0020 – Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
  • UEECD0019 – Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
  • UEECD0038 – Provide solutions and report on routine electrotechnology problems
  • UEECD0046 – Solve problems in single path circuits*
  • UEERE0001 – Apply environmentally and sustainable procedures in the energy sector
  • UEECD0044 – Solve problems in mulitiple path circuits
  • UEECD0009 – Carry out routine work activities in an energy sector environment*
  • UEECD0021 – Identify and select components, accessories and materials for energy sector work activities*
  • UEEAS0004 – Select electronic components for assembly
  • UEERE0021 – Provide basic sustainable energy solutions for energy reduction in residential premises
  • UEECD0052 – Use routine equipment/plant/technologies in an energy sector environment*

150 Hours Work Experience is also required:

  • AW866 – Module 1 (Placement arranged).
  • AW867 – Module 2 (Commenced)
  • AW868 – Module 3 (Mid-point)
  • AW869 – Module 4 (Completed)

Completion

Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a Nationally Accredited Certificate along with an exemption from some units as a 1st year Electrical Apprentice.
