What does a Civil Construction Worker do?

As a Civil Construction worker you’ll use your practical skills and knowledge to see important construction projects come to life. You’ll learn how to use a range of different tools and equipment, operate machinery, and safely plan and undertake manual construction jobs. No two days are the same, and you might find yourself working on major projects like roads, airports, railways, and waterways.

Course Info

You will learn how to:

  • Excavate, spread and compact materials.
  • Plan, interpret diagrams and job specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and small plant equipment.
  • Understand Work Health and Safety, material handling, and spills response.

Education & Training Requirements

The program is completed over 3 terms, with training divided into 7 blocks which group Units of Competency of similar outcomes together to assist in the qualification delivery.

As well as in-class learning, you’ll undertake on-site work placement, during which you’ll begin formal training with an employer, and spend your time working and learning practical skills on the job.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Nationally Accredited Certificate.

Training commences in Term 1 and continues throughout Term 3, and is divided into 7 blocks which group Units of Competency of similar outcomes together to assist in the qualification delivery.

On successful completion of the Certificate II in Civil Construction, students will also receive competencies in Working at Heights and Working in Confined Spaces. In addition, during the course, students have the opportunity to obtain their White Card. The White Card is mandatory for all workers wanting to work in the construction industry.

Fees & Charges

The Apprentice and Traineeship Company is delivering this course Vocational Education Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) program. Secondary School Students undertaking VETDSS courses as part of their secondary education are exempt from tuition, resource and enrolment fees, however may be required to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • RIICCM205F – Carry out manual excavation.
  • RIISAM204E – Operate small plant and equipment.
  • RIICCM207E – Spread and compact materials manually.

Electives

  • CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
  • RIIWHS202E – Enter and work in confined spaces.
  • RIICCM208E – Carry out basic levelling.
  • RIIWMG203E – Drain and dewater civil construction sites.
  • RIIRIS202E – Respond to site based spills.
  • RIISAM201E – Handle resources and infrastructure materials and safely dispose of nontoxic materials.

Completion
